Non-governmental organization Mare Nostrum launched a campaign to protect dolphins in the Black Sea, which are often caught in fishing nets. Project Coordinator Steliana Zgura said yesterday that five devices with sound waves that scare away dolphins had been placed on the nets.
The cost of a sound wave device is 110 euros. Other five devices are to be placed on fishermen's nets soon, Zgura added.
The project is financed by the Global Environment Facility and is supported by the National Institute for Marine Research and Development "Grigore Antipa" from Constanta.
