Environmental Specialists to Inquire Death of Dolphins

from The Georgian Times

Owing to casting ashore of dead dolphins in Anaklia, Black Sea coast, specialists from Environment Protection Ministry will arrive there June 12.

They will take sea tests for looking into the causes of dolphins’ mass death.

It’s already more than a week, since Anaklia residents discover dozens of dead dolphins at Black Sea coastline, while there were no dolphins inhabiting in this part of the sea earlier.

The villagers link the fact to military exercises of Russian and Abkhazian militaries in Ochamchire district of Georgia’s breakaway Abkhazia. They say that shells explode in the sea during that drills, frightening dolphins and making them swim towards Anaklia.

However, some people allege that death of dolphins is caused by radioactive fluids leaking in Ochamchire, which occurred a few weeks ago.
